The Philadelphia 76ers and the Brooklyn Nets have come to the conclusion of a trade. The 76ers have agreed to send second year F Brandon Davies for Nets' veteran SF Andrei Kirilenko, Jorge Guiterrez a 2020 second round pick and cash. The 76ers have apparently been trying to convince Kirilenko to stay around, but at this time in his career, its unlikely that he would be willing to stay, therefore meaning its most likely that he will be waived.
Why did this trade happen?
The 76ers have made it blatantly obvious in the past year or so that they are ridiculously serious about tanking for picks. On the other end, the Nets have made it clear to other teams that they are making their players available. Kirilenko was always going to be traded or waived. As well as this, the Nets also lower their luxury tax bill by as much as 12 million. This trade also gives the 76ers the opportunity to sign Furkhan Aldemir, a 6'9 F.
Does anyone win.. at all?
To be honest their's no winner from this trade, obviously its a great trade for both teams (I use the word great loosely, as both teams just did what they needed to). The 76ers can leave a roster spot open for when they waive Kirilenko. This means that as said before, they can sign Aldemir. The 76ers also get 25 year old Guiterrez who played in the NBA D-League in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons where he averaged 13.9 points and 6.9 assists, while shooting .375 from 3PT range. Guiterrez gives the 76ers some nice depth behind Carter-Williams, although he may not get much time, I'm sure that he will be a solid player to call upon when needed.
For the Nets, they lose Kirilenko who has only suited up in 9 games this season, averaging 5.1 minutes a game. The Nets had no use for the 33 year old Russian who has been connected to teams such as the LA Clippers. Brandon Davies, the PF who was apart of the trade, is a nice solid young forward who can stretch the floor and can be used in some lineups that help with floor spacing. In 20 games for the Sixers, Davies is averaging 6.3ppg, 3.7rpg and 1.4 apg in 19 minutes a game. If the Nets use Davies, he should get the occasional game with 15-20 minutes, but at this stage its unclear whether or not the Nets will use Davies.
It's good to see a trade happen in the NBA, but look to the news for more trades to come in the near future, with plenty of rumours swurling, I'm sure that another trade will happen very soon.
