After numerous speculations in the last 48 hours, with plenty of names being thrown around, the Boston Celtics, Memphis Grizzlies and New Orleans Pelicans have agreed in principle for Jeff Green to be sent to Memphis. The trade goes as follows:
Boston receive: Tayshaun Prince, Austin Rivers (both expiring contracts) and a future first round pick
Memphis receive: Jeff Green
New Orleans receive: Quincy Pondexter
It remains to be seen if the teams will try to push through the trade today, or wait until Monday when the league reopens. Austin Rivers, was the 10th pick in the 2012 NBA draft.
The Celtics are in full rebuild mode after acquiring another first round pick in the Brandan Wright trade, plus they also created a $5 million trade expection by sending out Wright's contract and taking no salary back in return.
Tayshaun Prince and his $7.7 million expiring contract is expected to play out the season with the Celtics. By trading Jeff Green, the Celtics were able to secure a package for him as they knew at the end of the season that he was going to opt out of his contract.
The Boston Celtics now have six first round picks and 14 in total in the next two NBA drafts. The future is now for the 17 time champions.
